Belladonna acts on every part of nervous system, producing active congestion, furious excitement, perverted special senses, twitching, convulsions and pain.
It is always associated with hot, red skin, flushed face, glaring eyes, an excited mental state and convulsive movements. Dryness of mouth and throat with an aversion to water.
A great remedy for children. Epileptic spasm followed by nausea and vomiting.
Corresponds to the symptoms of “air sickness” in aviators. Can be given as a preventive.
No thirst, anxiety or fear.
Strong symptoms of Belladonna include:
- Neuralgic pains
- Exophthalmic goiter
- Thyroid toxemia
- Desire to escape
- Frontal headache
- Acute suppurative otitis media
- Sore throat
Aching in every muscle. Pain is stitching, tearing; worse by motion, better rest.
Bry. Patient is irritable, has vertigo from raising the head, pressive headache; dry, parched lips, mouth; excessive thirst, bitter taste, sensitive epigastrium and sensation of a stone in the stomach; stool large, dry, hard; dry cough; rheumatic pains and swellings.
Bry. Especially affects the constitution of a robust, dark complexioned person with a tendency to leaness and irritability.
It prefers right side of body, warm weather after cold days or when the days are hot and nights are cold to manifest its action to the maximum.
Strong symptoms of Bryonia include:
- Exceedingly irritable
- Splitting headache
- Aural vertigo (Meniere’s disease)
- Epistaxis instead of menses
- Excessive thirst for cold water
- Mastitis (before menses)
- Dry, hacking cough
- Pleural effusion
- Brick colour expectoration
- Rheumatoid arthritis
It is a great Hahnemannian anti-psoric constitutional remedy. Its chief action is centered in an impaired nutrition, which gets out of breath easily.
Remembering its 3F – Fat, Fair, Flabby; perspiring, cold, damp, sour.
Leuco-phlegmatic temperament which means children who grow fat, are large bellied with a large head, pale skin, dull look, who takes cold easily.
Children craves chalk, ear dirt and other indigestible things; are prone to diarrhea.
Sweat over the head in children, so much sweat that the pillow becomes wet.
Strong symptoms of Calcarea Carb include:
- Dislikes work or exertion
- Muco-purulent otorrhea
- Pulmonary tuberculosis
- Umbilical hernia
- Gall stone colic
- Nocturnal enuresis (bed wetting)
- Uterine polypi
- Arthritic nodosities
In nearly all the cases where Lyc. is indicated, evidence of urinary or digestive disturbances will be found.
Older people, with an earthy complexion, uric acid diathesis, skin shows yellowish spots.
This remedy runs from right to left, acts especially on the right side of the body and are worse from about 4pm – 8pm.
In kidney affections, red sand in urine, backache in the kidney region; worse before micturition.
Intolerant of cold drinks; craves everything warm.
Pain comes and go suddenly. Sensitive to noise and odors.

The typical Nux-v. patient is rather thin, spare, quick, active, nervous and irritable. He does a good deal of mental work; has mental strains and leads a sedentary life, found in prolonged office work, overstudy and close application to business, with its cares and anxieties.
The indoor life and mental strain seeks stimulants, coffee, wine, possibly in excess; or he hopes to quieten his excitement, by indulging in the sedative effects of tobacco, if not really a victim, to the seductive drugs, like opium, etc.
Late hours are a consequence; a heavy head, dyspepsia and an irritable temper are the next day’s inheritance. Now he takes some cathartic, liver pills or mineral water and soon gets into the habit of taking these things, which still further complicate matters.
Strong symptoms of Nux Vomica include:
- Very irritable
- Fault finding
- Occipital headache
- Vertigo with momentary loss of consciousness
- Nose stuffed up
- Nausea and vomiting
- Bitter eructation
- Spasmodic colic in abdomen
- Constipation with frequent ineffectual urging
- Irregular peristaltic moments
- Contradiction – Absence of all desire for defecation
- Bad effects of sexual excesses
- Cracking in knee joints during motion
It is pre-eminently a female remedy, especially for a mild, gentle, yielding disposition. Sad, cries readily; weeps when talking.
The patient seeks open air; always feels better there, even though she is chilly.
Symptoms always changing, no two stools alike.
Often indicated after abuse of iron tonics and after a case of badly managed measles.
When the first serious impairment of health is referred to the age of puberty.
Feels uncomfortable with only one pillow. Lies with hands above the head.
Strong symptoms of Pulsatilla include:
- Religious melancholy
- Weeps easily
- Likes sympathy
- Yellowish-green discharges
- Dry mouth, without thirst
- Suppressed menses
- Too late, scanty menses
- Acrid leucorrhoea
- Diarrhea during/ after menses
- Dry cough
- Urine emitted with cough
- Bland, thick expectoration
The effects on the skin, mucous membranes, typhoid type of fever and in rheumatic pains make this remedy frequently indicated.
It affects the fibrous tissue markedly joints, tendons, sheaths, aponeurosis, etc., producing pain and stiffness.
Ailments from strains, overlifting, getting wet while perspiring, starting up with a motion but feels better after continue motion. Hence he feels better for a time from a change of position. Physical restlessness with continue change of position.
Rheumatism in the cold season.
Strong symptoms of Rhus Tox include:
- Thoughts of suicide
- Old injuries of the eyes
- Orbital cellulitis
- Coryza from getting wet
- Jaw cracks when chewing

Dislikes of water, dry and hard hair and skin, sinking feeling in the stomach around 11 a.m., and cat-nap sleep; always indicate Sulphur. Dirty, filthy people, prone to skin affections.
Standing is the worst position for sulphur patients.
Often of great use in beginning the treatment of chronic diseases and in finishing acute ones.
Strong symptoms of Sulphur include:
- Very forgetful

- Childish peevishness
- Too lazy to arouse himself
- Scalp dry, hairfall
- Scratching causes burning
- 1st stage of corneal ulceration

- Hot, sweaty hands
